Industrial Training Institute (ITI), for the Visually Impaired

Since 1964, the Academy has imparted light engineering training to VI youth from urban areas, of ages in the range 17-30 years with education of at least Class VIII standard.  The 18 months course provided the opportunity for the trainees to handle lathe, drill and similar power driven machines and acquire skills that would enhance their potential employability. On completion of the course, the Academy, through its Rehabilitation Cell, tries to find jobs to place the trainees, in public, private and government undertakings; as well as assist in self employment.

Since 2018, the Government of India, (Directorate General of Training, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) has approved the vocational training at the Academy as an I.T.I. for visually impaired adult males. It is the only I.T.I. for the blind in Eastern India. At present, it is imparting trainingcoursesto visually impaired adult males to qualify as theMetal Cutting Attendant; and, the Computer Operator/Programming Assistant. Now, the required educational qualification for the incoming candidates is Madhaymik, or equivalent.
