The Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy is a pioneering residential institution dedicated to the education, rehabilitation and empowerment of visually challenged boys. Functioning under Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Narendrapur, the Academy follows the ideals of Swami Vivekananda and strives to impart “man-making and character-building education” through a harmonious blend of academic learning, moral values and vocational training.
Along with formal education from primary to higher secondary level, the Academy provides Braille education, assistive technology, computer training, orientation and mobility training, music, sports and various rehabilitation programmes. The institution also houses the Regional Braille Press, Braille Library, Audio Book Studio, Teacher Training Centre, Industrial Training Institute and vocational projects aimed at developing self-reliance and employability among visually challenged students.
Students from different social, linguistic and economic backgrounds live together in a caring residential environment that promotes discipline, confidence, dignity and social integration. Guided by the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, the Academy continues its mission of empowering visually challenged children to become responsible and self-reliant members of society.
