Sub-Contract Workshop & Spice Grinding Project

NARENDRAPUR, KOLKATA – 700103 WEST BENGAL

Blind Boys’ Academy started Sub-Contract Workshop in the year 1967 and Spice Grinding Project in the year 1986 for interim employment of those visually challenged youths who are waiting for employment on completion of Light Engineering Training (Now ITI).

In Sub-Contract Workshop we do some specific machinery jobs supplied by different engineering companies. We also manufacture Folding Stick (White Can) which is very handy and useful for the blind persons. We supply these sticks to different organizations and individuals not only in Bengal also in different States of India and abroad. We are also manufacturing different types of candles, Stylus (writing device for V.I. persons) and Envelopes.

In Spice Grinding Project we prepare seven types of dust spices like Lanka (Red Chilli), Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhania (Coriander), Golmarich (Black Peeper), Ginger, Mustard Seeds powder. Apart from these, we also produce Sattu and Besan. The total process of spice grinding is run by only blind ex-trainees. They operate Grinding machine, Disintegrator (Crashing machine), Dryer, Heat Sealing machine, and are engaged in weighing and packing. We provide incentives to all the blind persons who can sell the products by themselves. Now through this project, it has been proved that if proper opportunities are availed, these apparent light-denied persons can be self-dependant.
