Mushroom procedure

NARENDRAPUR, KOLKATA – 700103 WEST BENGAL

The Mushroom Project of Ramakrishna Mission Blind Boys’ Academy, Narendrapur was initially supported by the Agriculture Department of Government of West Bengal. This project is playing a major role combating the protein malnutrition and enhancement of family earning in rural Bengal. Our small but potential spawn making laboratory produces spawns of oyster, milky and paddy-straw mushrooms throughout the year. Spawns are sold to farmers at minimum cost and are used for farmers’ training and in-house training. Since the mushroom cultivation requires less physical labour and less capital involvement, some of the blind boys of the Academy who are under training in the project are seriously planning to take up this cultivation as profession after completion of their training course in BBA. This project will always remain supportive behind them. Encouraging response for training from cultivators especially from women members of SHGs are worth noticing.
