Sub contract Workshop & Spice grinding Project

Blind Boys’ Academy started Sub-Contract Workshop in the year 1967 and Spice Grinding Project in the year 1986 for interim employment of those visually challenged youths who are waiting for employment on completion of Light Engineering Training. In Sub-Contract Workshop we do some specific machinery jobs supplied by different engineering companies. We also manufacture Folding Stick (White Cane) which is very handy and useful for the blind persons. We supply these sticks to different organizations and individuals not only in Bengal but also in different States of India and abroad. Now we are also manufacturing plates with shal leaves and different types of candles. We hope to start making paper bag and envelopes very soon.

In Spice Grinding Project we prepare six types of dust spices like Lanka (Red Chilli), Haldi (Turmeric), Jeera (Cumin), Dhania (Coriender), Golmarich (Black Peeper), Ginger and Besan. The total process of spice grinding is run by only blind ex-trainees. They operate Grinding machine. Disintegrater (Crashing machine), Dryer, Heat sealing machine and are engaged in weighting and packing. They may sell the products in their locality as their self-employment. Now 16 ex-trainees are engaged in Sub-Contract Workshop and Spice Grinding Project with their expectation that they would get better employment in future.
