R.K. Mission Blind Boys' Academy, Narendrapur

Introduction

The Academy is a sponsored Institution of the Government of West Bengal, Department of Mass Education Extension & Library Services. It’s Secondary School is affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. It provides education to the Visually Impaired Boys’ from Standard I to Standard XII. There is also provision for an Un-Graded (U.G.) Class. For observation and preparation of an overaged or late-blind student for his placement in proper class. In addition, students attend Music Class especially for Vocal, Violin, Sitar and Percusion according to their aptitude and interest. Besides general curriculam, the students are also taught Orientation & Mobility, Daily Home Living, Clay-Modelling, Industrial arts and Concept Formation and Basic Computer application. They learn some handicrafts work like Book-Binding,Chair Caning and Re-caning, Bamboo and Plastic works in the Academy. They learn Braille for writing and reading . They also use talking books (Audio C.D.) for their studies. They follow the same syllabus and subjects like other sighted students. They appear in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Examinations every year like other students. But as the Braille is not allowed in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary Examinations or in other higher examinations they take help of scribe (writer) in the said examinations. Till June , 2014, 217 students have passed the Madhyamik Pariksha of the Board, all being placed in the 1st division and 10 students have passed the Higher Secondary Examination (first year). Sriman Jasimuddin Seikh secured highest marks (549) and Sriman Arjun Saha, secured highest marks (384) among our students in Madhyamikand Higher Secondary Examinations respectively.
